Biography

Co-founder of Meanwhile Artist-Run Initiative, Tāmaki Makaurau born and based Jo Bragg (Ngāti Porou Iwi) is a widely published poet, arts writer, gender theorist and a frequent contributor to the Art Paper and ArtNews. Additionally, Bragg holds an MFA by Research (First Class Honours) awarded in 2021 by Monash University (Naarm, Melbourne).

Majoring in performance, video and photography; Bragg’s photographic works feature in the collection of both the Wellington City Council and Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū. Bragg currently works as ‘Inventory Coordinator’ for Webbs Auction House, Auckland.

What typically encourages or motivates you to acquire a new (technological) skill?

The impetus to produce a new work. The joy of playing with a new piece of technology and seeing how the visual or audio qualities are influenced by my level of understanding

Based on your experience, what makes a great tutorial?

The way it captures and holds your attention through use of editing techniques and the energy of the speaker

In your opinion, what makes someone an expert?

An expert is anyone who turns theory into practice through dedication to any given subject and can then teach others or demonstrate their skill in a way that is easily understood.
